Our Review of PMP Volume 4 by Ruchir Karanjgaokar
A good PMP exam preparatory volume, from our perspective, must be able to engage the student in a thorough thought-process, yet cover both breadth and depth of the PMPOK syllabus. Hence, PMP Volume 4, by Ruchir Karanjgaokar, is one such example. The one-hundred-question exam volume, based on the latest PMBOK 5th edition topics, have been carefully developed by Ruchir, and we like the fact that it covers a broad array of relevant topics from the syllabus. Of course, the latest inclusion in the 5th edition, "Stakeholder Management" is not neglected by Ruchir, as he constructed interesting exam questions pertaining to this topic.
One of Ruchir questions is: "Which of the following is true for stakeholders in High-Power-Low-Interest quadrant of Power/Interest Grid?"
The options given are:
a. They should be managed closely and it needs to be ensured that their needs & expectations are satisfied
b. They should be dealt with by the project sponsor as sponsors have more power than the project manager in organization
c. Since they have low interest, project manager does not need to focus on them and should try to satisfy needs of other stakeholders with more positive interest.
d. Project Manager should make sure that such stakeholders are invited to every project meeting and are informed of all small and large changes to the project.
We will not give away the answer to the question here, but this is our example of a well-constructed question that covers not only stakeholder management but also the term "High-Power-Low-Interest quadrant", which is essentially part of stakeholder analysis. The answer to the question comes with an explanation to why the right answer is correct, which we found to be extremely useful in helping the student understand the context of the question/answer and hence learning the key points covered by the question.
